Cooking/Gardening

Final Update

The Cooking Group gathered recipes and made them for the May 2nd event. We cooked at the Bethel Alliance Church with Suzanne Dunham and the GOT Farms group. Suzanne helped gather supplies and materials and she also helped with recipes. Three other elders from the Western Mountain Senior College and the Bethel Senior Citizens Group helped with this and also about six students.  We made cupcakes, rice crispy treats with chocolate, oatmeal cookies. blond brownies, chocolate chip cookies, mini sandwiches, and drinks such as lemonade and ice tea.

Cooking was fun and different and I hope other groups will experience it sometime. If we could do something differently we would like to cook more with elders, for different events and dates.   Our baked goods came out great and we also think that collaborating with seniors was the best part.  One thing we think went well was gathering everything we needed for cooking in advance. Another thing that went well was that the kids got to work with elders instead if just cooking with just students. This is a good thing because we get to learn new recipes and new techniques that we did not know before.  A few of the recipes we cooked for the Bridging the Generations event are linked below:

Past Updates

We have met with the seniors twice already and we have set a date for cooking. We went over who's going to do what, and we will cook on the 25th of April for the May 2nd event.

The cooking/gardening group meet with 3 representatives from Bethel Seniors Group and the WMSC.  We shared ideas for recipes to make for the May 2nd event. Here are some things that we came up: brownies with walnuts, rice crispy treats, rigs in a blanket, and congo bars.  We also came up with ideas for finger sandwiches:  ham + cheese, egg salad, tuna, and chicken salad.  In addition, we also said we wanted to have some sweets like a veggie tray, fruit tray, cupcakes, cheese puffs.  Finally, we decided we need some drinks like coffee and water for the adults and some fruit punch and water for the kids.  We also set up a meeting for next week on 3/21, where we will each bring in a recipe to share with the group.

Our goal is to work with representatives from the Western Mountain Senior College (WMSC) and Bethel Seniors Group to plan and prepare the refreshments for the WMSC 10th anniversary event on May 2, 2013.  We want to find as many recipes as we can, try some new recipes, and to make plant pots.
